Book Sacrifice Tag

It’s another tag! I was tagged by the wonderful Jasmine @ How Useful It Is. Go check out her blog; she is so nice and one of the people who have made me very welcome in the book blogging community! Thanks for tagging me 🙂

  1. An Over-Hyped Book:

You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies?

I am gonna have to say The Fault in Our Stars. Truthfully, I did enjoy the book, but I didn’t find it AMAZING like everyone seemed to. I knew what was going to happen so I didn’t get too attached to the characters. This is one book I’d like to reread and give a second chance!

  1. A Sequel:

Situation: torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

Probably Crossed from the Matched trilogy. I loved this series, but the second book was kind of blah. It kind of felt like a cat and mouse game between Cass and Ky. It was really hard to pick a sequel for this question, but Crossed is the only one I can think of.

  1. A Classic:

Situation: You’re in English class and your professor raves about a Classic that “transcends time”. If given the opportunity to travel back in time, which Classic would you try to stop from ever publishing?

I guess Sense and Sensability or Pride and Prejudice?? I don’t even feel like I can make an honest pick for this one. I wasn’t a huge fan of either of those, but I also don’t think I was old enough to appreciate them. Eventually, I hope to reread them both because I don’t even really remember what happened in either of them! (Side note: My favorite classic of all time is Gone With the Wind, so go read it!!)

  1. A Least Favourite Book:

Situation: apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?

Um….First of all, I would NEVER burn a book. But if I must pick a book, I am going to say Starfire Angels. It was a free ebook I downloaded for Kindle (haha it isn’t even a physical book but I’m going to pretend it was a physical book). It was absolutely awful. There were a ton of grammar mistakes and those irritate me to no end (if I have some in my posts, I’m sorry, I don’t do a lot of proofreading lol). Other than that, the characters were just annoying and the plot was completely unmemorable.

  4. Have fun!

Book Blogger Insider Tag.jpg

  1. Where do you typically write your blog posts?

Anywhere, honestly! I have written some at my boyfriend’s house, some on the couch, some in my bed, some on my desk. I can write anywhere as long as I am focused!

  1. How long does it generally take you to write a book review?

About 1- 1 ½ hours. Sometimes longer if I have a lot to say, or if I cannot think of what to say…which actually did happen for my first book review, Asylum. I didn’t know what to talk about, but I am slowly trying to figure out my voice.

  1. When did you start your book blog?

In May of 2016, so 3 months ago! It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made! I love talking about books and being a part of an amazing community!

  1. What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

Sometimes, I feel like it is taking away from my reading time. When I am really into a book, I don’t always want to stop reading it to write a blog post (blah).

  1. What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

I get a chance to write about something I truly love, books! Writing has always been a hobby of mine, but I just didn’t have anything in particular to write about. Now, I do, and it is so fun!

  1. What blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?

Definitely my Clockwork Angel review! I basically rambled sporadically about the book, but I needed to get my thoughts out.

DSC_1149.JPG

  1. What is your favorite type of blog post to write?

I love writing anything book related, but discussing books is one of my favorite things to do. I will go with book reviews because they can be so fun to write. They even encourage me to read more because I want to write more reviews for y’all.

  1. When do you typically write?

At night! I have written every one of my blog posts at night (I think).

  1. Do you review every book you read?

Since starting this blog, I have. If I start to read more books closer together, I might not do that anymore, but for now, I will be reviewing every book I read!

  1. How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? Cuddled with your fur baby?

When I write, I have Netflix on half of my screen, and Microsoft Word on the other half. I usually rewatch tv shows that I love, like Switched at Birth, because then I don’t have to completely focus on what is playing. It is moreso background noise for me! I can’t work in silence!

  1. When do you write your book reviews? Right after finishing the book? Two weeks after finishing the book?

I like to write my reviews right after finishing each book so that everything is fresh in my mind. I don’t want to mix up a new read with what I just read!

  1. How often do you post?

Twice a week! Tuesdays and Thursdays!

Thank you to everyone who has read this! And I hope you come back to A Little Slice of Jamie. It’s a fun time here! What are you all currently reading? Favorite books that you’ve read this summer?

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

Hey Guys! So I am coming to you with the Beauty and the Beast Book Tag, which is super exciting, considering that I was once Belle in a play. Thanks to Lilly @ Lair of Books Blog for (sort of) tagging me.

Rules:

» Thank the person who tagged you

» Mention the creator → Kirsty @Kirsty and the Cat Read

» Match a book to each of the songs/characters below

» Tag as many people as you like

“Tale as Old as Time” – A popular theme, trope, or setting you will never get bored of reading

Definitely Cassandra Clare’s shadowhunter world. It just never gets old! I am currently reading the Infernal Devices series and it just reminds me of the Mortal Instruments series. That series deepened my love for reading and being back in that world makes me so happy and excited!

Belle- A book you bought for its beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too

13951025_852948271471954_1818348996_o.jpg

I’m gonna have to pick Born at Midnight by C. C. Hunter. I got this book a long time ago and I remember being drawn to the cover. Then the book was also amazing, so that was a win win situation! It’s a part of a series (all of them have pretty covers) and I loved them all!

Beast- A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you

I honestly didn’t know if I’d enjoy Paper Towns by John Green. I prefer books with a paranormal or dystopian aspect, but I will occasionally read something contemporary. Paper Towns definitely exceeded my expectations! You can read my review here and some of my favorite quotes from the book here.

Gaston- A book everyone loves that you don’t

13932030_852948358138612_1791343718_o.jpg

I’m picking another John Green book for this one, The Fault in Our Stars. When I read this book, there was a lot of hype going around. I basically knew what was going to happen because people would talk at school and I would overhear. It was a good book, but I felt disappointed once I finished it. I wanted to love it, but I just couldn’t.

Lefou- A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart

I liked Hermoine more than Harry in the Harry Potter series. She was the sensible one and reminded me of myself in how she always had her nose in her textbooks. Part of me wanted her and Harry to be together, but that just wasn’t meant to be. Ginny and Harry are adorable together anyway!

Mrs Potts, Chip, Lumier & Cogsworth – A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable

Is it fair to say all books? Reading always puts me in a better mood, no matter what is going on in my life. It’s so easy to dive into a good book and immerse yourself into a different world!

“Something There” – A book or a series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end.

I don’t think I have an answer for this one! When I don’t like a book series, I don’t have any desire to finish it. Maybe one day I will pick them back up, but that hasn’t happened yet! The Lord of the Rings series is an example. I read The Hobbit and it took me way too long to finish, so I just never picked up the actual series.

“Be Our Guest” – A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner

I would have to say any character from the Uglies series! Truthfully, I just want to see what they look like when they turn “pretty.” I struggled to picture the characters as I read the books because I just don’t see how surgery could make someone “perfect.” That is kind of impossible, because everyone has flaws, but that is what makes them beautiful!

And that’s all, folks! Now, I tag all of you! Go do it, and have fun!!

-Jamie

TMI Book Tag

I recently heard about this book tag and thought it would be fun to do! Enjoy reading and I tag any of you who wanna do it! 🙂

TMI Book Tag 2.jpg

  1. What fictional character has the best style? Clary from the Mortal Instruments series is the first person to pop into my head. I love her badass style (pardon my French).
  2. Your book girlfriend/boyfriend/fictional crush? Dimitri from the Vampire Academy is HANDS DOWN my biggest fictional crush EVER. I had/still have such a crush. I was pretty disappointed by the actor they chose for the movie. He just wasn’t what I pictured. (I might have to go reread the Vampire Academy series now…)
  3. Ever loved a character but then started hating them? Thinking…thinking…okay, possibly Thomas from The Maze Runner. That series wasn’t a favorite of mine, mainly because all of the characters seemed to talk the same. I slowly started to hate all of the characters, sadly. The story line was great, though!
  4. Biggest/Longest book on your shelf? Gone with the Wind by: Margaret Mitchell; easily one of my all time favorites!
  5. Heaviest book on your shelf? I have two of these fancy books that are really heavy: one is Barchester Towers by: Anthony Trollope and the other is Faust by: Johann Wolfgang Von GeotheDSC_0733DSC_0735
  6. Do you have any book posters? Nope
  7. Do you have any book themed jewelry? Nope
  8. Book OTP (one true pairing)? Dimitri and Rose from The Vampire Academy series. I am always drawn to forbidden romance. Or, Peeta and Katniss from The Hunger Games!
  9. Favorite book series? I applaud anyone who has an all time favorite, but some of my favorites are as follows: Vampire Academy, Shadow Falls, Harry Potter, Mortal Instruments, and Hunger Games.
  10. Favorite Book-to-movie soundtrack? Mortal Instruments: City of Bones! I listen to it all of the time!
  11. A book story you miss/wish would continue? I don’t even know! I always want books to continue on forever (when they are good)!
  12. Favorite stand-alone? Crime and Punishment by: Fyoder Dostoyevsky or Willow by: Julia Hoban
  13. Since when did you read books? My mom taught me to read really young, but I can’t tell you exactly when. I’ve always loved to read because of it!
  14. Which Hogwarts house are you in? Hufflepuff!
  15. Quality you look for in a book? I like a dynamic plot line with well-built characters.
  16. Favorite book quote. “No measure of time will be long enough, but we’ll start with forever.” –Twilight Saga
  17. Favorite Author? I don’t believe I really have one. I read anything that sounds interesting, regardless of who the author is!
  18. Favorite book cover? I love the new covers of the new Harry Potter boxed set. I haven’t even let myself touch them very much because I find them so beautiful!

    DSC_0731
    I love it!
  19. Action or Romance? Romance. I’m a complete hopeless romantic!
  20. Where do you go when a sad moment happens? I don’t really go anywhere.
  21. How long do you need to finish a book? Depends on the book. Sometimes two days; sometimes two weeks.
  22. How long is your mourning period? This also depends on the book. Typically, it only takes me a day or two because I am usually ready for another book once one is finished!
  23. Least favorite book? The Lovely Bones was too graphic for me. I can’t handle anything with rape.
  24. Turn on in a character? Sweet and romantic, but also independent and strong…and mysterious and dangerous
  25. Turn off in a character? Mean and ruthless
  26. Reason I started blogging? I love to write and wanted somewhere to share my thoughts.
  27. Name a scary book? I am currently reading Asylum by: Madeleine Roux and it is definitely creepy! Those pictures are so scary!!
  28. Last book that made you cry? I have never cried while reading a book, but I got very close when I read Mockingjay!
  29. Last book that you gave 5 stars? Willow
  30. Any favorite book titles? Not really
  31. Last book you read? I believe it was Willow by: Julia Hoban
  32. Book you’re currently reading? Asylum by: Madeleine Roux
  33. Last book adaptation you watched? I honestly can’t tell you. I don’t watch movies very often!
  34. A book character you always wanted to talk to? Tris from Divergent
  35. An author you always wanted to talk to? Probably J.K. Rowling because she made such an incredible world in Harry Potter.
  36. Favorite book snack? I don’t like to eat messy foods when I am reading because I love keeping my books in pristine condition, but I tend to reach for popcorn when I want a snack.
  37. Book world you want to live in? The Mortal Instruments. I would totally love to be a Shadow Hunter! Or, Harry Potter! Who wouldn’t want to be a witch or wizard?
  38. Book world you DON’T want to live in? The Hunger Games because if I got picked, I’d be the first one to die!
  39. Last time you smelled a book? I’m not sure, but it was within the past week! I love smelling books!
  40. Weird insults used in books? The Maze Runner has a plethora of weird insults. Example: “You’re the shuckiest shuck faced shank there ever was.” Like, what?
  41. Favorite romance book? This is easy. Gone with the Wind by: Margaret Mitchell
  42. Do you write? Yes, for this blog and I have started writing multiple books.
  43. Favorite magical item. Is a griffin a magical item?
  44. Your quidditch position? The Keeper, but who knows how accurate that is.
  45. Favorite book related chat up line? Can’t say that I have one.
  46. Favorite book fandom? I don’t have one.
  47. How many books do you own? Actual books: around 175. Ebooks: about 80.

Thanks for sticking with me through all of these questions. 🙂 This was fun! What are you currently reading?
